This is what I wake up to every morning…

…and then people ask my why I love living in Florida…LOL. Who wouldn’t want to have such a lovely surprise in the morning?

See the little white flowers on the trees? They are guilty of producing the sweet perfumed air every Spring. Yes, I have the best mornings here.

Oh yeah we got some much needed rain this week.  But this time of the year any morning looks like this: foggy and moist.  The whole garden takes on an aura of mystery and everything looks different.  I went outside barefoot with camera in hand and Niza kitten to keep me company.  I found this hammock ready to lure pests into it.

Then I walked some more and picked up a sweet scent in the air…

Orange Blossom

Yes it’s time to fertilize and if you took my advice 2 weeks ago you should be ready to feed you soil.  If you didn’t, then don’t worry.  You still have time to run and get some.  Because our soil is so sandy, organic slow release works best.  It doesn’t wash away into the aquifer with one shower.  And speaking of the aquifer; remember that everything you put in the soil will eventually end up there…and then end up in your drinking water.

Time to buy fertilizer

It’s time to check and see if you have enough fertilizer and compost.  Once these orange blossom buds pop open, it’s time to amend the soil.

Crepe Myrtle

No other tree or plant gets more compliments than our Crepe Myrtle.

A southern favorite… it’s a must have for any gardener south of the Mason Dixon line.

And speaking of musts; who said the must needed bees to polinate our crops have left Florida?

The whole tree was a buzz this morning.  I lost count how many bees were flying around.

Feathered Friends

BirdsDon’t get me wrong. I’m not about to let them walk all over me like the cats do.  We have a symbiotic relationship.  I provide a clean bird bath with fresh water, bird feeders overflowing with bird seed and suet in a very cute little cage with a perch.

What do I get in return you ask?  I receive free services for organic pest control.  I also receive free stress relief.

Imagine this… sit in a comfy chair in your back yard after a long day at work.  Just listen to the breeze flow thru the leaves of the trees.  Watch happy birds flying above your home; soaring in the warm afternoon sky.  Feel their joy as they spash in the cool water in the bird bath or eat and sing at the feeder with no cares in the world.  Kick off your shoes and feel the cool grass between your toes.  Stretch and take a deep breath.  How do you feel now?
