Central Florida is the ideal location to live in this state.  Although my home is out in the very quiet countryside, there are plenty of sites to visit and events to go to.  The amusement parks are just the tip of the iceberg.  If you are in the area and would like to try something new, here is a list of events by month.  Enjoy!

Alafia River Rendezvous – Yes you too can travel in time without a time machine.  This annual meeting of history buffs is full of exhibits about life in the wilderness pre 1840.  If you are into period costumes wear yours, you will fit right in.

Florida State Fair – Music, food, rides, competitions, vendors, exhibits, cute farm animals and fireworks.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring a sweater for the evening.  This event has become our annivesary tradition for DH & me. February 7-18, 2013

Blooming Arts Festival – By far Bartow’s best event and the best art show in Polk County.  Plants, garden decor, jewelry, prints and more are all for sale.  If you love flowers and art you don’t want to miss this show.  There is an antique car show for your hubby to check out while you shop.

Florida Strawberry Festival – Plant City is the host for this yummy annual festival.  Music, rides and tons of food mostly made with sweet strawberries.  If you haven’y had a Plant City Strawberry, you haven’t lived.

Sun N Fun – Attention aviation buffs:  this is the event for you.  Lakeland Airpot becomes the busiest airport in the world during this airshow.  Sun N Fun is considered one of the largest aviation tradeshow/conventions with lectures, workshops and over 500 vendors.  Getting to see the USAF Thunderbirds up close is worth the ticket.

Boktoberfest – Every year the Bok Towers hosts a Oktoberfest and plant sale.  For those of us who lived in Germany and need our annual bier & band fix, this is it.  Top it off with some new additions to your garden available at their unique plant sale.  Prost! Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Annual Hispanic Festival of  Polk County – The Hispanic club of Lakeland provides the annual Polk County celebration of Hispanic heritage month.  Food, music, crafts and fun for everyone. Saturday, October 27, 2012.
