Last Scarf of this Cold Season

I received my skein of free Country yarn from Caron.  Just in time for Easter.  I was beginning to think they wouldn’t send it to me after so many people asked for a skein on Facebook.  I have to say that I was not disappointed.  The color is a bright happy yellow.  It’s very soft with a slight sheen that makes it look elegant once it’s stitched into a piece.

Caron

I asked the Caron on Facebook for a pattern and Vickie Howell sent a link for a very cute scarf.  A little too frilly for a woman my age.  I decided to use Lion Brand Pattern #90114AD Glitzy Accent Scarf.  Once again I fall in love with Caron’s yarn, but I find Lion Brand has more “modern” patterns on their site.

Feathered Friends

BirdsDon’t get me wrong. I’m not about to let them walk all over me like the cats do.  We have a symbiotic relationship.  I provide a clean bird bath with fresh water, bird feeders overflowing with bird seed and suet in a very cute little cage with a perch.

What do I get in return you ask?  I receive free services for organic pest control.  I also receive free stress relief.

Imagine this… sit in a comfy chair in your back yard after a long day at work.  Just listen to the breeze flow thru the leaves of the trees.  Watch happy birds flying above your home; soaring in the warm afternoon sky.  Feel their joy as they spash in the cool water in the bird bath or eat and sing at the feeder with no cares in the world.  Kick off your shoes and feel the cool grass between your toes.  Stretch and take a deep breath.  How do you feel now?

Pampering my Machine

Sewing Machine CoverFor those of us who create our tools, gadgets and machines are precious.  After beating up my machine for several weeks, I have decided to treat her nice with maintenace and a well deserved brand new “outfit”.

Maintenance steps for your machine should be located in the instruction manual.  Make sure you follow all the steps and do them with the required frequency.  Contact the manufacturer if you no longer have the instruction manual.  They might be able to provide you a copy.  Change your sewing needle while your at it.

The instructions for the sewing machine cover can be found on Sew Mama Sew’s blog.

Pretty Purse

Spring is on it’s way.  Slowy buy surely it’s getting closer to Florida.  With the new weather comes a new wardrobe.  Light colors, breezy fabrics…I’m loving it all.

So here is a new purse I made with some very pretty cotton fabric.  I decided to push myself a little and it wasn’t as hard to assemble as I thought it would be.

I changed the contrast fabric a bit so the yoke and handles are different than the pleated part both inside and out.  I also added extra pockets inside because I still don’t feel brave enough to tackle an inside zipper pocket.

The pleated purse pattern is a pdf download at the My Spare Time blog.

Washed Cotton

Washed Cotton

When I was a teenager I learned to sew with cotton fabic.  It’s easy to work with and it’s great for warm weather. But don’t forget to wash the fabric before sewing. You don’t want to find out the hard way how much the fabric will shrink after your done fitting your project.
